View #3 (Mumbai – Santacruz West) is a set of six photographs (each 21 x 28 cm) on archival paper, accompanied by an audio track. Mumbai is a major coastal city in western India and the capital of Maharashtra. Santacruz West is a well-established suburb known for its tree-lined streets, old bungalows, and vibrant mix of residential and commercial life. It offers a glimpse into the layered history and evolving identity of the city.

The aerial vantage point of the series invites the viewer to see from a new perspective, transforming familiar scenes into unexpected views. With each location captured in six photographs, the work echoes the idea of ‘Six Degrees of Separation’, suggesting that people from different backgrounds may still be connected in unexpected ways. A six-minute soundscape, recorded alongside the photographs, draws the viewer in with ambient sounds that evoke a sense of place and connection.

View #3 (Mumbai – Santacruz West) is part of Baptist Coelho’s ongoing multimedia series View, which explores the shifting relationship between people and their environments, capturing the tension and flow of shared public spaces. The artwork was developed during Baptist Coelho’s photography workshop, supported by and at Goethe-Institut, Mumbai, 2007. It was first exhibited as part of the touring group exhibition Urban Changes at Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai, from 19 to 29 December 2007. The exhibition was curated by Andrea Kuenzig. View #1 (Birmingham – Bull Ring), View #2 (Mumbai – Grant Road East), View #4 (Mumbai – Malad West), View #5 (Agra – Taj Mahal), View #6 (Aurangabad – Ellora Caves), View #7 (Bern – Aare, Mumbai – Vile Parle East) are also part of the series.
